    Sustainable Hispanic Homeownership

Housing Initiative Partnership (HIP), a nonprofit housing counseling agency based in Prince George’s County, kicked off their new Sustainable Hispanic Homeownership Campaign on May 17, 2010 with a press conference featuring MD State Representative Steny H. Hoyer.

Prince George’s County is one of the regions in the country hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis. And nationwide the Latino community has been disproportionately impacted by this crisis and the economic downturn.  Because of language and cultural barriers, immigrants are often targeted by scammers and predatory lenders. This media campaign is designed to reach homeowners in trouble before the scammers do and educate and empower them to contact a housing counselor and try to save their home. It focuses on homeowners who are in danger of losing their home and also helping to restore the community by educating potential new homebuyers. The campaign falls directly in line with our mission to educate and empower homebuyers to make informed decisions around homeownership that will bring them stability and generate wealth.
